  1. Washing your hands will only get you so far. As fear of the swine flu sends people everywhere into a panic, it’s more important than ever to keep your immune system strong. Nutritionist Sylvia Klinger shares her Top 5 body boosters with Latina.com:
  • Drink Juice Every Day: This is an easy way to eat your 5 fruits and vegetables a day and reap all of the benefits. You only need to drink 8 oz. of juice per day, but if you want a quick pick me up that will provide more disease fighting antioxidants, save another 8 oz. for an afternoon snack.  Here is my favorite:  2 large carrots, 1 to 2 apples and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Go ahead and use a blender instead of a juicer.
  • Keep on Moving: Exercise without breaking a sweat. Get off the train or bus a few stops earlier; walk around during lunch; do squats or sit ups while watching TV; grab a couple soup cans or water bottles and lift them up and down.
  • Choose a variety of foods: Colorful foods are almost always packed with immune-strengthening vitamins and minerals.  By the way flu virus affecting humans has not been identified in hogs in the United States or anywhere in the world.
  • Never skip a meal: This is the number one mistake most people make—they starve themselves during the day and eat the house at night.  If you are in a rush, grab a glass of low fat milk with a fruit, or a low fat yogurt, dried cereal, leftovers from the night before—anything!  Try to spread your calories out during the day instead of eating all your calories at night and you’ll enjoy more long lasting energy.

Get some rest: Turn off the phone and have some “me time.” You’ll allow your body to rejuvenate so you can tackle just about anything that comes your way.
